[Insert Lame Monkey Pun]

Happy Thursday! For this week I again decided to make cupcakes (honestly, cupcakes are kind of the most wonderful thing in the world!), but this time they were. . .monkeys!

I'm sure the amazing ladies who clean the lobby in my dorm think I'm crazy-most people don't make cupcakes at five a.m.-but there's something nice about being up before everyone else. And surprises are the most wonderful thing since cupcakes! I sent a bunch to health services as well as counseling services/campus ministries as a way to say thanks for all they do for us. Decorating the cupcakes was way fun. I went a little bananas

(ha ha-no? okay.) trying to squeeze the frosting dots for pupils and noses out of a ziplock bag, and some of the faces got a little crazy:) Then I carefully arranged them in foil pans and paper plates and sent them off through campus mail!

Will You Be My Valentine? Pt. 2

Yikes! It's 3 in the morning and I guess Valentine's 2010 is officially over. For my second Valentine's Day project I painted these little cards for all the food service workers. This one time I got a Christmas card from Japan that was hand painted, kind of like these, only it had poinsettias on it. It was the best Christmas card I'd ever seen! So, it definitely inspired me to paint all these butterflies and flowers and star shapes for Valentine's day. When I started. . .
. . .I quickly realized that hand-painting 110 Valentine's would take a lot longer than I originally anticipated. . .But thirteen hours later. . .
. . .the cards are painted, the messages are glued to the back, and I'm ready to deliver them!

Will You Be My Valentine? Pt. 1

Nothing says Valentine's Day like hearts. And cookies. And sparkly things. So, adding my own twist on the traditional red and pink colour scheme, I decided to combine all these things to make cookie valentines! After five hours of cutting, rolling, and baking (not to mention the four plus hours of decorating)

six lovely plates of colourful Valentine's cookies emerged. Then (with my usual degree of covertness of course) I delivered them to a sleeping Anderson Campus. I hope everyone enjoyed eating them as much as I enjoyed making them:) What are your favorite things about Valentines Day?

Shapes in the Bathroom

I had a hard time coming up with a stellar idea this week, so I decided to just continue spreading word of the blog. A little marketing in the bathroom stalls. So this morning I covered Hartung, Decker, and the Student Center, hanging little shapes in all the girl's bathroom stalls.

It was a wonderful adventure-complete with life threatening dangers!

I admit, the boys bathrooms were a bit more tricky. Usually I just surruptitiously glanced around to make sure there was no one around and then quickly. . .opened the door and stuck a shape by the light switch! Except this one.

Oh the scandal!

I'm gearing up for a few bigger things this next week since Valentine's Day is coming up. I usually end up feeling like left over crap on February 14th, but this year I'll be spreading lots of Valentines cheer, so I think it'll be okay:) Do any of you have Valentine's day plans or surprises? What would make your day better?

Race, Ethinicity, and Cupcakes!

So for the past two mornings, I've been getting up way early to make cupcakes to leave as a surprise for the 8:30 Race and Ethnicity in America class. Sneaking around at 5 in the morning making these little pink cupcakes was fantastic.

Although it's only 23 students (and one professor :) ) I think it's well worth it. Hopefully that's not too much sugar first thing on a Thursday morning. . .

And when I was stealthily delivering them I felt like Amelie in that part where she imagines she's Zorro! I think I must have been a ninja in a past life. (Okay, I know I'm not quite as stealthy as I think I am. But shh. . .c'est un secret.)

It's just so great to do something outside of myself, even if it's something ridiculous like dressing up cupcakes with candy. What are some things that make your mornings better?

LOVE

This week's project was also a pretty simple one (you can see the finished product above.) I decided to take advantage of the fact the Thursday wass a chapel day, and a lot more people would be in that area of the campus. I love using paint (especially colorful paint!) so assembling the sign was a nice break from critically analyzing and reading tedious assignments. It was a bit of a trick venturing out at 5 am on Thursday morning because of all the ice. I fell and slid a good distance multiple times, but it was actually kind of fun. Adventure-like.
I also happen to think that the LOVE sign meshed nicely with Anderson's initiative to raise money for Haiti. I am really proud of our student body and school faculty to respond the way they did. I hope that everyone's semester is getting off to an okay start. I know I've been pretty tired and some days I feel ready to give up. . .already. It's easy to stay depressed when the weather is so grey, so working with some color this week was fantastic!
Next week I think I'll go with baking. Cooking always cheers me up, and hopefully I can brighten a few of your mornings with a little colour and sweetness.
